On Saturday, Nov. 11, Grayslake North hosted a Zumba Pink-Out to help raise money for a foundation to support the cause of breast cancer.

“The main purpose of the Party in Pink Zumbathon was to raise money for the Susan G. Komen Foundation to support the fight against breast cancer.  Zumba has partnered with the foundation and made it a goal to raise $3 million, so we wanted to be a part of that movement,” said teacher Stacey Saunders.

The more people that showed up, the more money we can raise to reach Mrs. Saunders goal of $3 million.

“ There were approximately 90 people in attendance.  Students, teachers and community members made up the group of participants.  A group of 7 Zumba instructors took turns leading songs throughout the event. I would like to get more students involved and ultimately try to get more people to attend the event so that more money could be raised for the cause.  We were able to raise $1250 from the event this year, but I would like to see that number go up in the future!,” Saunders said.

Saunders’ main goal was to make sure everyone had a good time and was able to learn more about breast cancer.

“The main goal was to raise money for the Susan G. Komen Foundation and to also educate people on breast cancer.  We also wanted to remember those who have lost their battle and recognize those survivors who were able to attend.  Overall, it was a very successful event!,” Saunders said.

Senior Shaina Lesniewicz was enjoying her time with her friends and loved seeing people coming together for a good class.

“I enjoyed seeing everyone coming together to help Mrs. Saunders teach kids about breast cancer and hopefully give them a good time dancing too,” Saunders said.
