After a successful first year of the program, the girls golf team looks to improve on their second season.
The mentality of the team has changed from last year with more golfers being new to the sport.
“Our practices have changed from last season to help teach to new golfers focusing on their individual improvement throughout the season,” said coach Scott Ewen.
The team goals set at the beginning of the year were focused around improvement and not so much record.
“We want to see our players improve individually throughout the season and be competitive in every match as a team,” Ewen said.
Golf is a different feel than other high school sports, and the new golfers compare their experience so far with the alternative sports they play.
“Golf is different from any sport I have played before, but it is really fun and challenging in a whole new way. Getting to play on a bunch of different golf courses is awesome, and I look forward to it after school every day,” said senior golfer Bri Dietz.
The team lost many golfers to graduation and are thankful for the members who are trying golf for the first time.
“Being a part of the golf team this year has been such a good time. It really makes me wish I would have started my freshman year,” said senior Abbey Stinner.
The golf team is given multiple opportunities throughout the season to golf at high end golf courses.
“One of my favorite perks of being on the golf team are the different courses we play at for matches and tournaments. It is always a good time and makes the experience so memorable for me and I am sure for other golfers as well,” said senior Kara Ahlemeyer.
The team looks forward to what they have ahead of them this season.
“We are all confident in what we have as a team, and the future looks bright for us. I am very excited to see what this team has to offer in the upcoming matches and the rest of the year,” Ahlemeyer said.
