Boys golf season ends with strong Regional finish

The boys golf season comes to an end after a good run at the Regional tournament held at the McHenry Country Club.
The team did well in Conference and Regionals this year. The team’s best score in Regionals was an 85 by sophomore Alex Wrobel. Unfortunately they did not advance to Sectionals as a team.
“We finished the season with wins over Woodstock, Lakes, and Grant,” said sophomore golfer Joey McHugh. “It was a great experience for the team.”
The team played at a multitude of courses throughout the season.
“My favorite memory from this golf season was playing at the different golf courses including the Merit Club and Geneva National,” said junior golfer Jon Cesario.
With the team losing seven seniors in last year’s graduating class, the team needed returning players to step up as leaders.
“I think Kyle Baker really became a leader this year as the varsity one golfer,” Cesario said.
The coach saw the team to be full of leaders.
“I don’t know that one person stood out to me; I was more impressed with how the whole group was. They were a really good group to work with and be around,” said varsity head coach Tim Hough.
The golf season was filled with a lot of memories from bus rides, practices, and matches.
“We did have a hole in one this year by freshman Brian Szramek. We also shot our lowest team score of 163 in our win against Lakes,” Hough said.
