Cross Country works to place at State

After a complicated season last year, the cross country team has high hopes for the upcoming season.
The goal for this year’s team is to place somewhere in State.
“It’s very hard to compete with big schools during State, but maybe we will place in the middle,” said coach Brandon Boyd.
This season the cross country team will also be racing bigger schools because they want the runners to have more challenges.
“We will be racing Warren, Central, Fox River and many more,” said freshman Brianna Kramer.
This season the team also has a group of strong runners.
“These students have amazing times and are always trying hard. On the boys side there is Dylan Ponomar, Cameron Detweiler, and Brendan Leuthner, and on the girls side we have Paloma Alcala, Brianna Kramer, and Madelyn Wilkinson,” Boyd said.
Another great detail about cross country is the determination they put into each and every race.
“Determination is key doing cross country. It helps you focus on winning the race,” said freshman Madelyn Wilkinson.
However, as a team, they are trying to improve on working together and encouraging each other.
“What we mostly want to improve on is rebuilding and working together,” Boyd said.
Overall, the team has great bonds with one another.
“The chemistry is good this year. A lot of people help out one another,” Boyd said.
