This year, the members of the girls track team are working hard and pushing each other to be the best. They ended their indoor season with a NLCC first place title due to hard work, dedication, and the relationships they have built.
“We had the most successful indoor season the program has ever seen. We had three girls break school records and had over 10 top 5 times. It was the indoor season of firsts! We hosted our first indoor invite, which was super exciting. We defended our title at the Rockford Auburn Invite, and we capped off the indoor season with winning the NLCC Indoor Conference Championship. Our track programs have never won a Conference title since the school has been opened, so that was super cool and a great testament to all the hard work our girls have been putting in,” head girls coach Jesse Wolter said.
With indoor season coming to an end, the girls get ready for outdoor season pushing through the tough weather we have had.
“The indoor season is how we prepare for our outdoor meets. The indoor season is super competitive in regard to the size of the meets and really sets our girls up for success heading into outdoor. We travel a ton but are able to compete at a lot of cool facilities which is where you find the best competition,” Wolter said.
All the girls on the team are close with each other, which helps when

they are competing.
“A lot of it is bonding and forming a relationship with the girls as well as leading by example. The girls are all pretty close with each other as well as myself which allows us to all keep each other on track, literally and figuratively,” said captain Corey Warren.
All the girls put most of their time in the weight room to help build their strength.
“We are focusing on technical training. We’ve conditioned all season, so now it’s time to crack down on the little things like form running, hand offs, hurdle/jumps/and throws techniques, but it’s also about building a positive attitude because without that, no matter how hard we practice, a negative attitude could really break down the team,” Warren said.
Junior Kelly Tosic, senior Caroline Riss, sophomore Abbey Calhoun, senior Emily Huculak, and senior Abby Kicklighter have all broken school records this year. With State around the corner, senior Abby Kicklighter made it to State in discus with a throw of 123 ft.
