Poms works toward competitions

After a hard mandatory
summer training camp, the
poms dance team is preparing
for the upcoming dance season
in November.
Poms dance team varies
their style of dance.
“We have many styles of
dance. Usually we do poms,
jazz, and for the football games,
we do pop and hip-hop,” said
head coach Keeley Thode.
Chemistry and confidence
are two main things that help
the girls compete and win.
“This is what gives us the
drive and determination to win.
Without chemistry, we wouldn’t
be a real team, and without
confidence, we wouldn’t have
the sass that we are known for,”
said sophomore Katie Siebert.
The poms team is excited
for the next upcoming competition
season which starts next
month.
“The next competition
starts in November, and this
season goes on until January,”
Thode said.
The goals for the team are
very specific, and poms is determined
to achieve their goals.
“Our goals are to go to
State, win our competitions
and make North proud,” said
sophomore Isabel Yunker.
Every year prior to the actual
poms season, the girls train
by doing a mandatory camp in
the summer.
“We do a mandatory summer
camp that helps us train for
the dance season. We do routines
that will be shown during
the season,” Yunker said.
The team is also determined
to overcome their challenges.
“Our biggest challenge is
doing our first ever jazz routine,
but we are determined to succeed
with this routine,” Thode
said.
Overall poms is a very competitive
activity, and the team
loves competing against other
schools.
“I love the thrill I get as
soon as I hit the floor,” Yunker
said.
