Knights off to hot start to lacrosse season
After 5-0 start, the Knights look to continue their quest for a Conference title and possibly a State championship
The Knights remain undefeated with hard fought win over Evanston.
Grayslake North’s lacrosse team remains undefeated after beating Stevenson last Friday with a final score of 12-3; However, with this win, the Knights were not satisfied with the victory and the wins over the likes of Barrington, Evanston, and Buffalo Grove, and hunger for more.
“The thing that stands out about this team is just that it’s a TEAM,” said varsity head coach Brad Fish. “We have yet to have the full arsenal due to injuries as well as other factors. and everyone has stepped up to contribute! It is really an unselfish group of players. But mostly I would say the key has been our defense and their improvement every day. And lastly. I would say our goalie is the best we’ve had at Grayslake North since I started coaching.”
After a loss to Mundelein in the Regional two years ago, the Knights are looking to avenge that loss with a strong 2020-21 seasonal campaign. With a 5-0 start, the Knights rank third in the MaxPreps Illinois state rankings, meaning that they are the third best team in the state of Illinois thus far. However, records mean nothing to this team as they know the goals set for them and will stop at nothing to achieve them as their season drives on.
“I think the team we have now is very motivated this season, especially since our last game we played was a tough loss against Mundelein,” said varsity captain Aidan Murphy. “Our guys all have one goal in mind, and it’s a State championship. Even though some really good players graduated last year, we have no plans on anything other than a championship.”
The Knights are scheduled to face teams like Lake Forest, Loyola Academy, Glenbrook South, and many other teams later in the season, but the Knights look to take their season one game at a time and go 1-0 every day.
“Winning the conference is always our first goal, and from there a lot depends on how much we’ve grown as a team as we head into the end of the year tournament,” Fish said. “I believe some teams in the past have overachieved and some have underachieved in the state tournament. But I believe this group could have as much success as any.”
