Review: “Big Daddy”

“Big Daddy” came out in 1999 and brought a smile to those who have a sense of humor. This movie is a classic, and you have to see it.

Thirty-two-year-old Sonny Koufax (Adam Sandler) has spent his whole life avoiding responsibility. But when his girlfriend dumps him for an older man, he has to find a way to prove he is ready to grow up. In a desperate last-ditch effort, Sonny adopts 5-year-old Julian (Dylan Sprouse) to impress her. She is not impressed, however, and he cannot return the kid. This leaves Sonny lost with a child, and he does not know what to do.

At first, Sonny does not want anything to do with the kid, but Julian starts to grow on him as time passes, and Sonny starts to mature and do things that a father figure would do. This shows how Sonny is able to change not only for himself but for whomever. In the past, each day Sonny would wake up and have only himself. Once Julian grows on him, however, he has a purpose and reason to wake up and complete tasks for him. The kid changes Sonny a lot, and Julian ends up feeling the same way about Sonny, so they both grow to make each other comfortable.

I love this movie and think it is a classic about maturing, shown by how the characters mature throughout. The way Sonny takes a step up and does what is needed and expected is really awesome. He does things that only he would do with the kid that are still a little immature, but that is what makes this movie fun to watch. Sonny, at a point, gets ahead of himself because it all started out as just watching Julian, but turns into a whole new story that expresses love in father and son ways.

This movie is a little old, but it is never too late to watch a classic, and this movie has its ups and downs. Ninety-two percent of people who watch it like the movie based upon its meaning. If you ever just want a movie to laugh at or just enjoy with the family, I recommend the movie  “Big Daddy.”  It is a good movie.
