As the boys golf season nears a close, the Knights are looking forward to finishing in the top three at the NLCC or win the Conference championship.

The IHSA Regional golf tournament is just around the corner. Starting on October 6, North’s golf team will have their postseason. Starting with very important competition with Woodstock North, this game will determine if they can make it to the State finals. After a 174-166 loss to Central, the boys have looked nowhere else but forward and look to bounce back ahead of the Regional tournament.

We would love to finish in the top three of the NLCC tournament,” said head coach Tim Hough. “We have been playing better as a team, so I hope we can have a top three finish at the Conference.”

Boys golf has had a transition of newcomers coming onto the team. This has left many questions about  their performance this season. However many of the newcomers have been nothing short of a miracle. One of these new golf players, senior Thomas Kielwitz, was a new member to the team. He was already placed on varsity. Shooting a 43 against Central, this marked one of his strongest performances on the team so far.

“My goals with this season being my first year was to have fun and just compete,” Kielwitz said. “ I’ve never played competitive golf, but it’s really exciting and takes a lot more focus than golf with your friends. My hope was that we can do good in the conference. I always want to try to be first and so do they. We’re playing good, and if we lose in a match, it’s only by a couple strokes, so we’re right there.”

The Knights have been looking to work hard as the Regional tournament is in sight. Led by a good group of seniors, the Knights look to have a Cinderella- like ending to what many call a strange overall season.

“I believe this year’s team really showed the coaches that although we are in weird circumstances with the Coronavirus, we were able to have fun and make the best of it,” said senior Jack Sisson. “I really hope the guys competing in Conference play really well and hopefully move onto the Regional championship.”

The Regional tournament is a big deal for the Knights golf team as it marks the time to lay it all on the line for the boys. The boys have been taking every shot at every match thus far, as if it was the Regional tournament itself, proving that the Knights are definitely looking forward to making their mark to finish off a terrific season.
