Grey’s Anatomy Seasons 1-16 – WARNING SPOILERS

We start “Grey’s Anatomy” Season 1 Episode 1 with Meridith Grey and Derek Shepherd waking up in Meredith’s house. Meredith and Derek just met the night before in a bar called Joe’s. They are both new to Seattle and both have new jobs. We find out Meredith is late for her first day and has to leave Derek rather abruptly, but when she gets to her new job, as a surgical intern, the one person she’s not expecting to be there is Derek Shepard. Now if you didn’t already know, Merideth Grey and Derek Shepherd are the biggest will they won’t they couple I think I’ve ever seen. Due to the fact that Derek is kind to her boss, their relationship is forbidden, which makes them want each other even more. Not only is Derek her boss, but he’s also married. They separated after Addison, his wife, cheated on him with Mark Slone, his best friend. Now eventually Meredith and Derek figure all these problems out, but it takes them a very long time.

Besides the fact that they can’t figure out how to be together, their main roles are as doctors. We met many doctors, but the original interns, residents, attending and the chief are what make “Grey’s Anatomy” what it is today. We meet Izzy Stevens, George O’Malley, Alex Karev, and Cristina Yang, who are all interns like Meredith. Now we see these characters change and evolve so much. Alex becomes a decent person. Izzy beats cancer, marries Alex but then leaves him. George enrolls in the Army but saves a girl by jumping in front of a bus and dying for her, but then there is Cristina Yang. Cristina is one half of the twisted sisters along with Meredith. One of Cristina’s most famous lines is “She’s my person…If I murdered someone she’s the person I’d call to help me drag the corpse across the living room floor.”

Now as you probably know there are 16 seasons, and a lot happens, so I’m going to tell you about my personal favorite moments/ saddest moments. Season 8 Episode 24 is in my book the saddest moment in “Grey’s Anatomy” and has me crying every time. In this episode, Lexi Grey dies. Now Lexi and Mark Sloan are a couple, but they are also a will they won’t they couple, and I will say I could do without that. Just before Lexi dies, Mark and Lexi tell each other how much they love each other and how one day they will have a big, happy family. The reason Lexi dies is because a group of doctors were in a plane crash, but a little later in the episode, Mark starts to die and he says, “Lexi’s waiting for me.” This is by far the saddest, most beautifully touching moment in this show.

Now later in the show Derek ends up dying in a car crash. I never thought Meredeth would love again or should love again. That is until we meet Andrew Deluca. I believe Deluca is Meredith’s second chance at love, but Deluca is struggling, and it seems like he might not be able to be a doctor anymore. He’s losing himself, and no one seems to be able to help him. At the end of Season 16, Meredith sees Andrew sitting on the floor crying, and Meredith takes him with her to help him. This scene makes me cry because you learn to love Deluca so much because he is so pure and cares so much. Even though these charters are just that they make you fall in love with them. You care where they end up and how they get there. You’re with them every step of the way, and I know I can’t wait to see where they take these characters next.
