Over summer vacation, senior Danielle Geissberger traveled to Greeley, Colorado, on a nine day mission trip to help those less fortunate.
“The goal of the mission trip was to help others that were struggling. We also were able to meet new people who shared the same interests that we did. It was a really fun experience, and I’m glad I got to do it,” Geissberger said.
The mission trip was organized by Joy Lutheran Church who partnered with Group Mission Trips. Group Mission Trips is an organization that sends teens, adults and families on Jesus centered mission trips. Geissberger and 40 others traveled 17 hours in passenger vans up to Colorado, leaving on June 23. The focus for this trip was on home improvements and community service projects.
“My crew got assigned to a painting job, so we painted a two story house for a family for the whole week, as well as participated in other fundraisers to help. Other than work, we met for group meetings every morning before work and every night after dinner,” Geissberger said.
Geissberger understands how rewarding mission trips can be and how much they have offered her throughout the years she has gone on them. This is her third mission trip. She has previously been to Pocahontas, Virginia, and Savannah, Georgia. Mission trips have helped her create a tighter bond with God and prepare for her future, all while helping others.
“I think they have allowed me to realize what hard work is. In and out of school, juggling AP classes and then volunteering at Pads, my church’s youth group, and working as well,” Geissberger said.
