North’s football team ended their season with a win against their cross town rivals, Grayslake Central.

This was the football team’s seventh consecutive victory over Central’s team, winning 53-14. Although the win against Central meant a possible spot in the playoffs, North found out Saturday night that they had fallen short of their playoff goal.

“It’s upsetting, but at the end of the day, we did exactly what we could,” senior quarterback Austin Martineau said.

During the game, Martineau threw his 22nd pass of the season, breaking his own school record. He led the team in a large lead over Grayslake Central.

“We wanted to put Central out early. We didn’t really accomplish that, but we did get everyone in at the end of the game, which is huge, especially on senior night,” Martineau said.

The team fought hard all season, working toward their individual and group goals. The team may be done for the season, but players are still optimistic that they’re season went as best as they could have made it.

“Whoever we played, I think we definitely gave them a good match-up,” senior Nick Lovitsch said.

As for next year, returning players are planning to work hard during off-season. They want to secure their spot in playoffs, since they had fallen short this season.

“I’m looking forward to next season and I’m ready to work hard during the off season. I hope we make it to playoffs, but that means a lot of hard work,” said junior Nathan Staley.

The final record for their season was 5-4. North football had victories over North Chicago, Round Lake, Wauconda and Grant and were defeated by Antioch, Lakes, Deerfield and Dundee Crown.
