Baseball looks for successful season

The varsity baseball team started their 2018 season in March with returning members and new members all ready for a competitive season to begin.
“[It is] much different playing on varsity instead of junior varsity. [The] competition is better. [Also] I’ve always liked baseball. It’s a true team sport; it’s really hard for one player to change a game,” said junior Jimmy Straten.
So far, the team has set team goals that they hope to accomplish by the end of the season.
“Our team goals are to win another Conference title and to just have fun, as it could be the last time some players get to play this game, so just going out while having fun was a key goal for us. [And] our plan to accomplish our goals is to just go out there and play our game and trust our coaches and their process, because in the end, they know best,” said senior Sebastian Sancen.
Along with team goals, each player sets a personal goal that they plan to also accomplish within this season.
“A goal of mine is to play better than other shortstops on the other teams every game. This goal also leads to me wanting to make All-Conference, and a way I could do that is listen to what the coaches have to say and put the team’s success first,” said sophomore Jason Donahue.
Overall, this season has a lot of players that can benefit the team by helping them grow as a whole throughout this season.
“I’m looking forward to really seeing this team play the game I know we can and going out there and playing our hearts out and leaving it all out on the field. So, when we end the game, there are really no regrets that could have of done better,” Sancen said.
