Dance wraps up competition season

After winter break, while most students at North were reluctant to get back into the swing of things, the dance team was in the midst of their competition season, cleaning their jazz and lyrical routines to prepare for Sectionals on January 20.

“We [have been] working on our overall technique and showmanship. We condition, stretch, work on technical elements of the routine, and perform the routine several times for stamina and performance qualities,” said varsity coach Keeley Thode.

After preparing for countless hours, the team went into Sectionals at Mundelein High School with an optimistic mindset.

“Every team we are going against deserves a spot in the winning six who make it to State. We have been working very hard to make it to State, and we are going to fight for a spot on that dance floor,” said junior Nikki Boxer.

Although the team did not qualify for State, they are still continuing to perform at varsity basketball games.

“[Performing at the games is] fun because we get to try out new things in the routine and practice everything that comes with a performance,” said junior Lexi Huffman.

The girls of the team are still positive as they reflect on a great season full of accomplishments and lasting friendships.

“Everyone is so supportive, and they all believe in me. I am pushed to be the best dancer, and person that I can be,” Boxer said.
