Students fall into season with German Club

Oktoberfest kicks off the new season during the last days of September with food, music, and family.
Thanks to Lisa Palaian, the German Club sponsor, and the families of students who were able to bake different dishes, Oktoberfest had around 20 families and other community members join the celebration.
Oktoberfest is celebrated in many different parts of Germany, but the city most famously known for their huge parties is the third largest city of Germany: Munich. The city of Munich is known for its annual Oktoberfest celebration that takes place during the last couple days of September.
“It’s a very authentic German experience celebrating the end of summer coming into the fall season, so we kind of mocked Munich’s annual Oktoberfest in a way of having very authentic foods,” Palaian said.
“Families cooked and brought bratwurst, homemade pretzels, and apple and nut Kringle.”
“My dad runs a family sausage company, so it was easy to bring bratwurst sausages for everyone,” said junior Amanda Bachinger.
Students and staff who don’t have a German background were open to come as well to interact with other families who do have German descent outside of the classroom.
“I just fell in love with the German culture and felt that I needed to be a part of the event,” Bachinger said.
Palaian feels that she couldn’t have put together this event without the support of the passionate students and families who brought in the foods that they made at their homes to share with everyone.
“I was very pleased with the event, so I hope it will grow in the following years into a schoolwide event,” Palaian said.
