New choreography trains dance team

The dance team is working hard with new choreography techniques in their practices to prepare for this year’s competitions, the first one being at Mundelein High School on November 19.

The team has big goals and is working hard to win in every single practice.

“Along with each dancer meeting their personal and team goals, my goal for this dance season is to place in the top six at our Sectionals and advance to the State series,” said head coach Keeley Thode.
Thode is focusing on the dancers’ technical skills so they look their best at competition.

“To prepare for the upcoming season, we are heavily focusing on our technical skills. We have a technique coach that works with us once a week to improve our overall team and individual technique. We also condition and work on performance qualities at every practice,” Thode said.

All of the dancers on the team are anticipating this win and are making sure they do their best at every practice.

“It would really be an honor to place high in Sectionals this year. Everyone on the team has become so close, like a family. Placing in Sectionals would make us even closer. We take a lot of pride in winning, therefore we have to put in a lot of effort when preparing,” said sophomore Simone Woods

The dancers are all very excited and hope for a good turnout at the competition, but they also put on a halftime show at every home football game. A lot of determination has gone into prepping for this season.

“It’s always been really important to me to make the varsity dance team, and now that I’m there, I want to do my best to give it my all. There is no ‘I’ in team, so everyone’s individual efforts go toward making us something bigger, better and stronger,” said junior Angelina Ambrose.
