PSP holds end of year banquet

On May 15, the current PSP class held their annual banquet in the cafeteria to welcome next year’s class and prepare them for their time in PSP.

They had speeches from current members, watched a video highlighting some of the events from this year, and held a candle lighting ceremony to send out this year’s students.

It helps to build the culture of the class by celebrating what the outgoing class has done and giving the incoming class an idea of what to look forward to,” said the PSP teacher and social studies department chair Christopher Kubic.

Many students appreciated being able to share their hard work from the year by talking about their favorite memories with the incoming classes.

“My favorite part was having the opportunity to speak about why I enjoy PSP so much. I also got to be in the video talking about some projects we worked on like going to NorthPointe Resources in Zion,” said junior Shaina Lesniewics.

The whole class worked together to plan the event ensure that it ran smoothly.

“Everyone had their own role in planning the banquet. We had people in charge of food, making the video, planning speakers, and of course, setting up before the event and cleaning up after. I helped to coordinate the events that would go on during the banquet as well as announce and introduce each segment,” said senior Sarahi Ledesma.

This event is based on a tradition that’s been taking place for years and will be continuing on to future PSP classes.

“It’s based on a tradition from a group I was involved with in college – Lambda Sigma Sophomore Honor Society.  Other PSP teachers like Mrs. Hinz and Mrs. Bristow have added elements to the program as well,” Kubic said.
