Soccer looks to improve from past season

A new season brings along with it new challenges for any sports team, but girls soccer is determined to get past them and dominate the competition.
After an impressive season last year, building upon the triumphs will only better this team moving forward.
“We have continued to play with the same system, approach, and attitude. This has allowed us to hit the ground running each season. We always look to take an aggressive team approach on and off the ball, and when or if we lose the ball, we try to win it back as quickly as possible,” said head coach Adam DeCaluwe.
With this being the last season for a few, it is important for them that personal goals are high and achievable.
“My personal goal for this season is to be able to make sure that I’m working as hard as I can so that I can make it easier on my team. I want to be able to put my teammates in scoring positions. I want to just have a great season overall since it’s my senior year,” said midfielder Sydney Paez.
This is also the first time that girls soccer played in the new conference, and the possibilities were endless.
“I anticipated a very tough fight in the Northern Lake County Conference. We all know each other well, and now those matchups having the importance of being conference games, the season should be a lot of fun,” DeCaluwe said.
Paez thus far is the only player to commit to a college to continue her playing career. She will be attending Northern Arizona University this upcoming fall.
“My commitment has been hands down one of the best things. I hope that I can go in and show that I deserve to be there. I want to be able to play my last two years of course, but maybe even get on the field earlier,” Paez said.
