Summer camps prepare new and returning athletes

Over the summer of 2017, there will be a variety of different athletic camps in order to prepare the athletes for the seasons to follow.
The camps are organized and directed by the head coaches and athletic directors.
“There are head coaches for each sport who help plan when and where the camps are held,” said athletic director Tina Woolard.
Specifically, the cheerleading team utilizes the summer time to better condition the cheerleaders.
“Our summer is a little different than most sports because we actually have tryouts in April, so our teams are already selected for the summer. We are able to do strength training and teaching basic cheer technique in the summer,” said cheerleading coach Jennifer Garza.
This helps not only the athletes, but also the coaches prepare for their upcoming seasons.
“The coaches like to have summer camp so they can see who is planning on coming out for the season. It’s nice going into the season having an idea of how many athletes are planning on coming out. [It shows if] we need to order more uniforms, or recruit more players, etc,” said volleyball coach Jill Grunloh.
