Ajwa Imtiaz

Diversity is a privilege held close to Grayslake North. Freshman Ajwa Imtiaz represents uniqueness as she stunts with her ability to speak and understand more than five languages.
“I speak Urdu, Mawati, Faa, Punjabi, English, a little bit of French and Arabic,” Imtiaz said.
Imtiaz learned most of the languages through her family, and despite knowing multiple languages, she prefers one the most.
“My native language is Urdu. I learned those languages from my parents and my grandparents except for French. My favorite language to speak is Faa,” Imtiaz said.
She hopes to expand her linguistic abilities in school like she first did at home.
“My parents taught me Urdu, Mawati, Faa, Arabic and Punjabi. I am learning French in school, [and] I would like to learn Spanish,” Imtiaz said.
There’s many advantages to knowing multiple languages, as it also impacts one’s life.
“It has impacted me [on] the way I think [and I also] can help someone,” Imtiaz said.
