What is the true meaning of Christmas?

Christmas is advertised in the media very often and depending on the person, the true meaning of Christmas varies.

Christmas has different meanings from person to person ranging from religions like protestant families to Atheists.

“Christmas to me means celebrating the birth of Jesus and how we should be more united as Christians and rejoice with each other,” said Greater Faith Pastor Jordan Lee

Nowadays, Christmas is seen more as a gift centered holiday.

“Christmas is made for kids now, due to the fact they have a guy named Santa Claus pretending to be some savior for kids. Instead of advertising it for like car deals or coffee they should be telling kids the true meaning of Christmas and how the birth of Jesus changed everything, “Greater Faith member Ahjurae Blaze said.

Christmas to some students can range from the gifts to just doing what is right.

“I believe it should be celebrated however people want to celebrate it. I go to church to celebrate Christmas but others spend their time in the house obsessing over Christmas. It’s not my business, it’s just how they were raised,” said senior Irving Barrera

Christmas for other people is the top priority.

“Christmas is a must have within our community. Without it, many people wouldn’t know what Christmas means, but it’s not just the holiday. It’s up to the parents to inform their kids as well,” Lee said.

Like each family, each religion has their own way of celebrating Christmas.

“Christmas shouldn’t just be wait to open presents, open them, then leave. It should be more family based communicating with family member instead of going off to do your own thing,” Blaze said.

Some people believe if the obsession of gifts is all there is, it shouldn’t be celebrated at

all.

“I believe if people are just going to obsess over the gifts they get then Christmas just shouldn’t be celebrated. It should just be about winter coming and blowing over,” Barrera said.

Christmas has lost its spirit due to the crazed obsessions over gifts instead of family and how advertised it is in the media.

“If Christmas wasn’t advertised, we would have a greater understanding of the holiday, but then again not many people see it that way since we have all the technology we do today,” Blaze said.

With Christmas being the busiest time of the year, people should take time to spend time with their families instead of going out and destroying the meaning of it.

“Family is a necessity. Without family there wouldn’t be a point in Christmas. It just wouldn’t work. Family is the most valuable thing, and people forget that especially around Christmas,” Lee said.
