National Honors Society recognizes outstanding students

National Honors Society was established to recognize outstanding students that represent excellence in leadership, scholarship, service, and character.

These students go above and beyond to promote leadership and community service both at school and out of school too.

“National Honors Society is a great way for students to get involved in school and their community. The club also looks great on college applications,” said officer Emily Brown.

In order to be a part of NHS, students must qualify by showing good grades and involvement in school clubs and sports.

“Students with a 3.4 GPA or over are sent in the mail an application to apply to NHS. They then must fill out personal information and write an essay. Weeks later, students will find out if they are accepted into the club,” said Erin Wise.

In the Spring, NHS hosts inductions to welcome and congratulate  new members into the club.

“At inductions, your name gets read off in front of the whole crowd of people. You then walk across the stage and shake many people’s hands,” said NHS member Isabel Yunker.

Students in National Honors Society do a variety of community service. In order to be a part of the club, students must meet the qualification for service hours.

“I get my service hours by helping out at Feed My Starving Children and helping out at Save a Pet on Sunday mornings,” said Yunker.

Students in this club also must be either a Junior or Senior. These students promote a lot of leadership qualities at school.

“Being an NHS officer, I am in charge of getting the message out to other members about upcoming events and speaking at our Friday morning meetings,” Brown said.

National Honors Society is a great club to show off students success in school and in the community. It recognizes students who are well-rounded with grades, community service, and leadership
