The Life Skills Program opened a Knights Cafe on September 19, in hopes to give the students a realistic work experience.

“[They] have done a coffee-related work program the last few years. It used to be a coffee delivery service. Over the summer, we decided to change it up a little,” said Kelly McIntyre, Life Skills teacher.

The Knights Cafe will be open periods 6 and 7a in the cafeteria and will be serving hot and iced coffee, hot tea and hot chocolate.

“I make hot chocolate because I love hot chocolate!” said junior Kevin Washington.

Washington was very excited for the grand opening and showed no worries.

“I’ve been making coffee for years I’m a master!” Washington said.

Other students were nervous, but nonetheless they all were very eager and happy for this opening.

“I make ice coffee and hot coffee,” said senior Devin Hoppe.

This new cafe can lead to new experiences and memories to students.

“We wanted a more authentic and realistic work experience for our students. Luckily our program had that little room in the cafeteria, so we decorated it and now we have our own cafe!” McIntyre said. “The students are in charge of greeting customers, taking orders, handling money, and doing inventory.”
