Expectations soar as football team captures key wins

The new conference has proven to be an exciting challenge for the Knights with their 4-1 record, and expectations are high for the remainder of the season.
The experienced coaching staff and veteran players are attempting to make a team to rival all past GNHS football teams.
“This team compares favorably to some of our better teams over the past few years. Each team is unique and has different personalities, but this group shares some of the positive attributes that all good teams have,” said varsity assistant coach Andy Strahan.
And with the team’s promising start to the season with a win over Willowbrook and Sycamore, the goals of coaching staff and players could become a reality.
“I want to make a deep run into the playoffs and leave my mark on Grayslake North football,” said varsity quarterback Hunter Ambre.
This goal is emphasized at the practices and games not just by the players but the coaches as well.
“Every day we give our all at practice and pay attention to every little detail. Our coaches are sure to have us prepared for whatever our opponents bring,” said varsity starting defensive end Eric Obenauf.
The relative success of the team at this point in the season could be a result of the many years spent playing together and bonding.
“Our team has been together for the fourth year now, and we all have a special bond that will stay with us forever,” Ambre said.
The Knights only loss this season came to cross town rival Lakes, but a positive attitude is still a must for the team.
“After our loss to Lakes, we are more focused and motivated to work harder,” Obenauf said.
Catch the Knights at home on September 30 against Wauconda for the Homecoming game.
