With competition season approaching, the dance team is working hard and setting many team goals to help them succeed this year.
The dance team has been practicing a lot to prepare them for their competition season.
“We started preparing for competition in the summer with technique and conditioning. Now we practice in the dance room and wrestling room four to five days a week,” said head coach Keeley Thode.
The team has also set many team goals for the season to make sure that they are able to excel at their upcoming competitions.
“Our goals for the season are to improve in technique, to be competitive in our new conference, and to make it to State,” Thode said.
The dance team had a fun experience at the IHSA State Competition last year and hopes to go back again this year, placing even better than before.
“Making it to State is not only physical, but it is also a mindset that the girls have to possess. With IHSA becoming more competitive, the girls need to continuously practice with their technique. They have to believe that they can make it to State. As a coach, I need to foster that belief that they can make it there,” Thode said.
Along with the coach, the varsity captains have also been preparing the girls for competition by working with them on their technique and leading conditioning each day at practice.
“I plan to lead the team to success by pushing everyone to be the best, so that we can accomplish our goals as a team,” said captain Lauren Engert.
The captains on the dance team also help prepare their teammates for their upcoming competition season.
“They always want me to do my best and they help me when I am having trouble with something,” said freshman Simone Woods.
