Annual art show is a success

The annual art show was held along with Muse on Friday, April 1, to celebrate all the great things the fine arts program has achieved.
“[The planning] began with selecting dates for the show. We had to organize a logo contest for the contest, open to students at all of the fourteen participating conference schools. We collected over seventy submissions, which were voted upon by the arts teachers of all the schools,” said digital photography teacher Randall Sweitzer.
For many students, art is a passion. The art show is a way for them to get their work out in the world and to have it be discovered by people.
“Art, to me, really is anything that someone can create. Each piece of art has its own story, even a song, piece of pottery, painting, photo, or a novel. They’re all art, but with some sort of back story,” said sophomore Sam Neuzil.
The art show has been going on at Grayslake North ever since it opened. Many teachers and students feel it’s an important aspect of the school’s history.
“The main focus of the show is to honor the artistic talents of students from the 14 Fox Valley schools. These students have worked countless hours and were willing to share their own personal expression with others. This show honors the work of those students,” said art teacher Kelly Bott.
There was over 350 pieces of art that went into the art show from many other schools in the area.
“There were three best in show awards for each category, plus one for the logo winner. Also, there were ten honorable mention awards for each category (thirty total),” Sweitzer said.
This year’s art show showed the amazing talent within the schools and inspired many students to think creatively and to become inspired with art.
