Swimmers compete at Conference, Sectionals

Boys swimming did well this year in competitions, with swimmer Max Haubrich medaling in the 100 yard fly and 100 yard back at the Conference meet at Woodstock North High School and at the same events at Sectionals at Lake Forest High School.
The two swimmers at North, Adam Chwieros and Max Haubrich, have worked hard this year on improving in swimming. They put a lot of time into it to get better.
“I practice five times a week, every day, and swim meets are on the weekends. I practice two hours a day,” Chwieros said.
The boys swim for the Lake Forest Scouts Swim Club. They can choose to go to the Conference competition and Sectional competition for North. This year, both boys went to Sectionals and one went to Conference.
The Conference competition is farther away at Woodstock North, but it has different schools to compete against.
“The Conference competition is held in Woodstock at Woodstock North, and Sectionals are typically at Lake Forest or Vernon Hills because they are closer schools to our area,” said the athletic director Tina Woolard.
At Sectionals, Adam Chwieros took 11th in the 50 yard free and 12th in the 100 yard free. Max Haubrich took fifth in the 100 yard fly and sixth in the 100 yard back, earning a medal for both. At Conference, Max took second place in the 100 yard fly and third place in the 100 yard back, once again earning a medal for both, making for an eventful year in swimming.
“At Regionals a few weekends ago, I won three gold Medals, one silver and two bronze. I also earned three State cuts and two Speedo Sectional cuts,” Haubrich said.
Boys swimming is over for this year, but it will start up again next year for more competitions.
