The girls basketball team looks to improve as they head into the second half of the year after a mid-season trip to play in the Martin Luther King Jr. Tournament in Washington, Illinois.
The girls team brings back more experience from a tournament with tough competition.
“Our theme lately has been game management, meaning making smart decisions in order to execute our offense. This is important especially if we are up and want quality posessions rather than throwing up unnecessary shots,” said senior Abbey Stinner.
The Washington trip not only brought tough competition, but it also built team chemistry throughout the weekend.
“During our trip to Washington, our team as a whole bonded. We always made it a thing to do everything as a team. Going away for a weekend and staying at a hotel really gave our team the time we needed to finally spark chemistry as a basketball team and as friends,” said junior Sidney Lovitsch.
The chemistry the team has gained from the long weekend trip has benefitted them on the court as well.
“Getting as close as we are now, it’s easier to know what each other is going to do on the court. With that, it is easier to bring each other up and keep playing hard when we aren’t playing as well as we want to. Our goal is to finish conference strong, and it is going to be easier because of how we all have bonded,” Lovitsch said.
The chemistry is something not every team has, and the team looks to take advantage of it on the court.
“I think the whole team came together more than we ever would have without this trip. We did mostly everything as a team, and we can see the difference during practices now and hopefully it rolls over into our important upcoming games,” Stinner said.
