Swim team competes at Conference, Sectional levels

Members of area swim clubs are able to compete at the conference, sectional, and state level for Grayslake North.
Girls swimming is not just focused on one event. The girls are trained for multiple events, which takes up more time during practices.
“We practice all the time. We usually get a good four hours out of our day with practicing,” said senior Ioana Pintescu.
Though there may not be many swimmers on the team, the girls have been trying their hardest in their meets.
“We didn’t earn any medals; however, the girls did really good with improving their times, and a couple of the girls got personal best, which was really cool to see because they were really excited,” said teacher Shelli Williams.
November was filled with meets. Although the girls did not win any medals, they still accomplished goals they set.
“This season I hoped to achieve best time, which I did, and it was pretty awesome to see that. I just hope to keep swimming and just be active,” Pintescu said.
At the meets, there are individual events. At each event, the girls are given a certain amount of points. Once all the girls are given their points, they all come together as a team and are ranked according to the scores.
“We did okay this season. This was the first year where the girls had relays. We had a few people who weren’t able to play because of injuries. Overall, we did way better than what we did the past couple of years. We had a pretty good team this year,” Pintescu said.
