The boys tennis team is off to a strong start this season, winning four of the first five matches of the season.
“Joe Kizhakkadathu and Shane Boyd have stood out as leaders on the team so far this year,” said coach Jill Tomasello.
The boys tennis team came into the season with a regrouping goal in mind.
“We lost a lot of strong players from last year, so our goal was to rebuild new doubles combinations for this year,” Tomasello said.
The season has been different for varsity player Joe Kizhakkadathu, who has varsity experience from previous years.
“[This season] has definitely been a roller coaster from running, to the actual matches, to the people on the team. This season has been hands down one of the best seasons of tennis,” he said.
The team is 8-7 with more competition ahead.
“We’re in one of the best conferences in the state. Jacobs and Prairie Ridge consistently produce conference winners,” said junior Joe Geary.
The boys tennis players push themselves every day with the goal in mind to improve on their record.
“The competition level is high, so we know we have to push ourselves every day to stay competitive,” Geary said.
The team has bonded this year after long nights of traveling and practices.
“The players on the team really get along, and I feel the chemistry on the team drives us to improve every day,” Kizhakkadathu said.
