Players vie for first place title at LSU’s annual soccer tournament

Latinos Stand Up held their fifth annual LSU soccer tournament on Feb. 27.
This year’s winning team was Carranza which consisted of juniors: Sean Dameron, Christopher Zamora, JC Thomas, and Cole Karabinus. The team was excited to have won this round robin tournament and represent the boys soccer program.
“The tournament was a good opportunity to represent the boys varsity soccer program, or just the soccer program in general, as our whole team was from the soccer program. It was nice to see all levels get together to play,” Zamora said.
This year was also the first year an all girls team has made it to the championship game. Seniors Teagan Johnson, Jocelyn Rodriguez, Kayla Hartigan, Megan Davis and junior Meghan McCue were excited to participate.
“I am really proud that our all girls team made it all the way to the championship game. We had to beat an all varsity boys team to advance, and it felt great to show them that girls should not be underestimated and we have just as much skill as them,” Davis said.
The tournament is an influential part of what Latinos Stand Up does throughout the year and gives everyone an opportunity to play soccer.
“I think it is important for the school to have this tournament because it gives LSU a chance to raise some money and also for some people who don’t or can’t play soccer for a club or school, a chance to go out for one night and just play soccer for the love of the game,”said senior player Zach Kottmer.
