Girls basketball is looking to continue their run midway through the season with multiple conference victories.
The girls basketball team is 14-13 this season but have had some recent success in the Martin Luther King Tournament located in Washington, Illinois, three hours away.
“We were able to really bond as a team and have fun while winning three of our four games. That trip has given us a lot of confidence and momentum,” said coach Rob Nicoletti.
The players gained a lot of experience and developed strong team chemistry over the weekend.
“The Washington trip really made our team bond, and we all got so much closer during the trip on and off the court,” said junior Abbey Stinner.
The team has faced a lot of tough competition throughout the season so far.
“We have played a tough non-conference schedule and have seen good teams at the tournaments we’ve been at, especially the Mundelein Holiday Tournament and the Washington MLK Tournament,” Nicoletti said.
The team came into the season ready to accomplish their goals and with the mindset to succeed.
“At the start of the season, it was important that our team worked together as a unit so we all had the same mindset going into our games,” Stinner said.
Although each girl is a strong member of the team, several have stood out as leaders.
“Our three captains are Cassie Friedman, Maggie Fish, and Sidney Lovitsch. All three have been terrific this year, but our entire group is made up of great girls,” Nicoletti said.
Nicoletti went from sophomore boys coach last year to varsity girls coach this year and is getting used to the change in the style of play.
“The style of basketball is a little bit different, but I have really enjoyed the transition because all of the girls in our entire program work hard in basketball and in the classroom,”Nicoletti said.
