As the Grayslake North Football team has ended its season, they have gone 1-8, with the defense getting run and thrown all over them. That, along with not being able to stop a cold against all the teams allowing 289 points on the year. The offense did not fare much better, with them not being able to get any effective drives, only scoring 102 points all year.
With the season ended on one of the lowest notes in school football history, following a season that made the team feel disappointed. Getting outscored by 189 points throughout the entire year will make everyone feel disappointed. Despite all the lows, the future is still waiting for the young Knights on the football team, with more juniors and sophomores starting over seniors due to injuries or because they earned the start. “The season felt like a roller coaster, and with the team being young, it bodes well for the future, but when you’re starting a lot of sophomores versus juniors and seniors, it just makes for a tough year,” said Defensive Coordinator Steve Wood.
The coaches used this year as a building year for next year, getting younger guys the necessary reps to develop them for the future. The biggest surprise from the coaching staff was the number of losses, with the team not being able to close out games, and the team feeling like the schedule had beaten them down before they were able to get back up from their losses.

With the general feeling from the players being that it was “Really depressing knowing that it was the last year that I will ever play football,” said senior Alan Jalloh.
By ending the year on such a low note, with the feeling that the year could have been so much better. The surprise came from the team’s performance, with a lot of people taking the games or practices not very seriously, and the lack of accountability from others. The seniors absolutely felt the shock of their last year, and they felt the impact of football on their lives. Some of the seniors took this as a chance to step up, with Dominic Ordonez stepping up and becoming a leader and mentor on the offensive line despite not being one of the team’s starters.
