Cheer at Grayslake North has been extremely popular throughout the years. The JV cheer team participated and won first place at Barrington’s Jingle Fest and Rolling Meadows, with fifth place wins at Buffalo Grove and Grayslake North. The cheer team ended after Sectionals, completing an amazing season.

North’s varsity team competed at Rolling Meadows High School for their first competition and won first place. They then competed at Conference at Grayslake Central and placed third. Finally they competed at Sectionals at Belvidere High School and placed ninth.
“I think the program started off strong, but we didn’t end on the high note that we wanted,” said sophomore cheerleader Grace Merki.

North’s varsity team is equipped with talented girls that range from sopohmores to seniors. Cheerleaders like Jordan Churchill and Haylie Rudd, who’ve been cheering for years, are two good examples of talented underclassmen who cheer on the varsity team. Jordan also participated on North’s girls golf team and softball team. These athletes handle more than one sport per year at only ages 15 and 16.

“I think it’s important to remember all the bonds both JV and varsity has made over these many months,” Merki said.

Grayslake North’s cheer team prepares for more work starting this spring for next year.
“We are already getting ready for the 2022-2023 season with tryouts in April,” Merki said.
