The dance team placed third at the Conference competition.

The Dance Team competed at Conference on Friday, January 17, and Sectionals on January 22.

Dance team has been competing since November. Every competition had prepared them for Conference and Sectionals, which are their biggest competitions of every season.

“I have witnessed every single dancer on both JV and varsity work their butts off, and I’m so incredibly proud of everyone. Itzel, Lillie, and I had the amazing opportunity to help re-choreograph the routine with my peers!” said senior Haley Berliant.

Conference this year was held at Lakes Community High School. Grayslake North placed third and increased their previous score by ten points. Having a score increase that much is extremely rare within the dance world.

“I don’t want to say that anything that happened wasn’t what I expected because when a group of people are committed and passionate about what they do, expectations mean nothing to what they can really do,” said senior captain Itzel Gonzalez.

At the conference meet, one member of each school is awarded the sportsmanship award. This award was awarded to Itzel Gonzalez. She is currently captain of varsity and has been a part of the dance program since her freshman year.

Sectionals is where schools compete in order to qualify for State. At Sectionals this year, Grayslake North placed twelfth.

“I am so proud of the dancers!  It was wonderful to see the girls put in the work all week,  come together as a team, and have all of their hard work pay off,” said varsity coach Kimberly Vojcak.

With the season coming to an end, the dance team will still be active and preparing to start their football season next August.
