The Academic Team held their first meet at home last week.

On Wednesday, January 12, 2022, Grayslake North’s Academic Team hosted a meet, where they had the “best night of the season.”

“The varsity team had our best night of the season. While we dropped our first match to Grayslake Central, we bounced back with two straight convincing wins over Lakes. Meanwhile, our JV team had very strong showings in all of their matches,” said adviser Noah Scibbe.

Introducing new members to the varsity team really helped them out during the meet, having David Johnson help them answer questions on the varsity team for the first time.

“Some highlights from our last competition would definitely be meeting with the team after our back-to-back wins versus Lakes. Our players had an awesome showing with players like Ethan Waldenstrom and German Berdnichenko answering multiple questions before they were finished being read. Additionally, another highlight was seeing one player, David Johnson, succeed in his first-ever set of varsity matches. He got multiple questions right in his first try, and our team was so excited for him,” Scibbe said.

Being the first year truly back from COVID-19, the academic team is now in person. Last year during the academic season, all meets were on Zoom.

“This year has been a fantastic year transitioning back from our format during the 2020-21 season. Due to COVID, we did all of our competitions via Zoom. But this year we are back in person, and it is definitely an improvement. We have also improved as a team at both levels and have even notched a few more victories than last year!” Scibbe said.

The Academic Team has more meets to come and are excited to continue their season.
