The boys bowling team competes against Johnsburg High School.

Grayslake North boys bowling went toe-to-toe against Johnsburg last Monday.  Johnsburg won by 97 pins, but the Knights gave a good fight.  The team performed well, consistently bowling their average and performing nearly as well as they had at practice.

“Our players are good at consistently bowling their average,” said Coach Greg Geiger. “ All of our competitive averages are very close to our practice averages.”

But the nerves that come with away games are difficult to brush off. The team aims to work on performing at away games just as they do when they have the home lane advantage.

“ We need to work on maintaining our consistency at away games and tournaments and being able to perform on a consistent basis during competitions,” Geiger said.

Consistency in bowling is no easy feat. Lucas Adams bowled an amazing game, with consistency being his main mantra. He shot a 190, 199, and a 191 for an average score of 193. And although the team lost, improving is always their goal; it is something they will always strive for.

“Our short term goal is always to win, but because we are a non-conference sport, our individual record does not affect our standings at the end of the season,” Geiger said. “Instead we focus on getting better, more consistent, and raising our averages so we can perform at Regionals, Sectionals, and State.”

Alongside improving, always having a good time and being passionate about the sport is just as important to the team.  Bowling is more than just a ball and pins. It is about experience, improvement, and striving towards being the best you can be.

“Anyone can bowl and have fun doing so,” said teammate Levi Adams. “ When I bowl, I’m surrounded by a team that supports each other, and other teams always support each other.”
