North hosts activities fair to increase membership post-pandemic

This year Grayslake North Held its very first Activity Fair post-pandemic. The activity fair was to try and showcase the many clubs and activities North offers to its students, with over 50 clubs and activities available. Many clubs and activities did not end up happening last year because of a lack of interest and knowledge.

“I think it is exciting to host any event after coming back from a pandemic, so the activity fair was kinda my first idea to really get people to see what North is all about, especially freshmen who have never really been in the building. We really want to increase our numbers. I was really excited to try and get more people involved,” said Keeley Naughton, the activities director at North.

After the first day of the activity fair, many students have shown interest in different clubs and activities by filling out the Google form.

“So after day one, we were already at over one hundred sign-ups. That’s a huge success to me and that’s just a hundred students, so every student could have clicked a couple of different clubs, but we have over a hundred students signed up so that’s a huge success for me,” Naughton said.

Not only was the activity fair available for the new freshman, but it was also available for sophomores, juniors, and seniors.

“I think it should be a returning thing every year. It’s going to be my goal to kinda do that the first or second week of every school year. I think not only for freshmen, but I think it’s a good refresher for all students. We have over fifty clubs, and I think a lot of students don’t even realize that, so I think it’s a good reminder,” Naughton said.

Students not only got to go to the fair, but they could work it. Many students who are involved in a sport or activity could volunteer to try and recruit other students.

Amber Takaki, a student volunteer, said that without the fair “people aren’t gonna know about new clubs or they don’t know about any at all, like freshmen. They probably didn’t know about half the clubs that we have.”

Many members who went to the activity fair to show off their clubs and try and get more members believe clubs are important.

“It’s important being involved in school clubs and stuff like that because it also does look good on your college stuff, and it’s also something to do,” Takaki said.

If you did not find a club that you were interested in or looking for you can always talk to Mrs. Naughton about adding one.
