Girls bowling is not letting COVID-19 slow them down.  This year they are going strong despite COVID restrictions and a limited season.

We are looking solid and have improved at both levels of the team from last year, varsity and JV,” said coach Laura Bertermann.  By improving and getting good scores, it helps team morale. The girls have also won most matches this year.

This season has been a great year for many girls, and there have been scores in games topping 200. That is a great accomplishment for the girls bowling team and is a great way to set the team up for a win.

Even with bowling being inside and limited space, “no cases of COVID have spread due to the bowling programs,” said Tina Woolard, athletic director. This is really good news not only for bowling but also for other sports to show that even close quarter indoor sports can be safely practiced if all protocols are followed.

This is the final week of bowling, and the girls will finish off the season with a state tournament on Saturday, March 13.  They will bowl virtually from their home lanes and compare scores across the state to find out who wins.

“Yes, 100 percent bowling was worth it. I have learned so much and made a lot of new friends through this sport,” said freshman Brooke Ellingsen, a varsity bowler. It is her first year bowling, and she has found a group of girls that she will be friends with.

If there are any people who are on the verge of joining a sport, encourage them to join. Sports are a great way to get involved in the Knights family.

The girls finished the season with a Sectional and a State tournament where they placed fourth out of 15 in Sectionals and 21st out of 81 statewide.
