Members of the boys cross country team compete against Wauconda High School

The boys cross country team defeated Wauconda High School on Sept. 18 and has worked to compete and improve their times.

Junior Armani Diaz finished first with a time of 15:40, defeating everyone else by at least a minute.

All of the boys cross country runners and coaches have been practicing, doing workouts, and continuing to run and improve times.

“We have been meeting with athletes via zoom over the summer. I thought we should not have in-person camp. I still gave them a training plan over the summer, and when the season started, we continued to work out,” said head coach Anthony DeStephano.

Coach DeStephano has been the boys and girls coach for over 5 years.

Many of the runners, including senior Jack Larson, have big plans for this year. The NLCC Conference is in 2 weeks, and top runner Armani Diaz is currently running a 16:35 3 mile.

“We need all of the preparation we can get, balancing racing and training schedule, and this year they lowered the amount of conferences we have, but now we have more dual conferences,” DeStephano said.

The boys cross country team will face off against schools such as Lakes, Grayslake Central, North Chicago, Antioch, Grant, and Round Lake. They will continue to work towards bettering themselves as runners as they hope to crush the competition at the NLCC conference.
