Review: “I Am Not Okay With This”
New series, ¨I Am Not Okay With This¨ has grown popular over the last few weeks of its release on the popular streaming platform, Netflix. Based on the novel by Charles Forsman, ¨I Am Not Okay With This¨ portrays the chaotic life of a 17-year-old girl named Syd, who after her father’s death, realizes she has telekinetic powers.
Through the heavy burden that weighs on Syd’s shoulders of being a good older sister to her younger brother, Liam, and the burning anger towards her widowed mother, Maggie, Syd begins to realize she is not normal.
I loved this series because though it may sound familiar to ¨Stranger Things¨, another multi-series hit by Netflix, it has its own trials and tribulations. Despite Syd´s outbursts of rage and unpredictable behavior, the viewers can’t help but feel sorry for her. Syd is easily the best character in the series, and not only because the show is based on her life, the depth and layers to her thought process create a relationship with the viewer’s heart and emotions.
At certain points in the show, Syd also breaks down what is known as ´the fourth wall´ and directly speaks to the viewers. This style of filming allows the viewers to feel as though they have a connection to Syd and her decisions throughout the show, which in turn, makes this show incredibly addicting to watch.
Overall, the show is phenomenal, and I would recommend it to anyone that is willing to become fully invested in a fictional story.
