Student Council has changed up Homecoming this year with exciting new activities.

Homecoming week had new and fun activities that started with a car show on Sunday, September 29 from 11:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m., which featured games, a bouncy house, crafts, reach and rescue, dunk tanks ,and food trucks.

On Monday, there were food trucks outside during lunch periods. Tuesday had tye-dye in the courtyard. The first 400 students who got a Homecoming ticket received a white t-shirt with this year’s Homecoming theme on it for students to tie-dye. Then on Wednesday, there was the traditional powder puff game. On Thursday, there was the DJ in the cafeteria. Friday had a pep rally, the golf cart parade, and then the football game.

During Homecoming this year there will be some fun new twists! This year in the aux gym there will be games, tables, ping-pong, and corn hole. They’re also changing it up with a new DJ.

However, they’re still keeping some old traditions.

“Every year we try to keep old traditions that we keep from year to year, like the confetti cannon during Homecoming,” said Jackie Boratyn, the sponsor of Student Council.

Every year Homecoming has a new theme and new decorations. This year the theme is Light Up the Knight. For this new theme, they’re also changing their DJ. The school has signed a one year contract. If students want to help be a part of that change, they can join Student Council to get a say in what happens in the school. Student Council is seeking freshmen as new inspiration on new events coming up this year. If students want to join, all they have to do is go to a Student Council meeting on Tuesdays at 7:20 a.m. in C105.

“I feel like (freshmen) are going to give us new ideas and inspirations, because young minds are great (for Student Council),” said sophomore Kavya Joshi, a Student Council E-Board member.

Student Council is trying to host new things to get every student involved.

“Overall, I really like that they’re really taking charge with a lot of things and also taking risks and trying new things. Like they’ve tried the Hunger Games in the Spring over the last couple of years,” said Molly Tomlinson, the student activities director.

Student Council is trying to improve the North Knight experience, not only during Homecoming but everyday life in Grayslake North.
