With an overall record of 13-13-1, the boys wrestling team finished their regular season on a strong note.
Regionals were held on February 2 at Lakes Community High School. Sectionals began February 8 at Antioch. State will then be held on February 14.
Senior Adam Blonski was one of the wrestlers who advanced to Sectionals and will now be competitng for third place at State. He is the only wrestler who will be advancing to State. Along with those accomplishments, Blonski earned his 100th win, only a few wins behind former North wrestler Alex Moran.
“I want to be State champ and be able to represent North. Being State champ would be a great feeling because of all the hard work I put in this season and to end my senior year as a State champ would be a great accomplishment,” Blonski said.
Senior Wake Caldero is in his fourth year of wrestling. He likes the mental toughness of wrestling and being able stay in shape. Caldero was one of the wrestlers moving onto Sectionals along with senior Adam Blonski, sophomore Noah Green, junior Jake Jozwiak, and junior Alex Castiglia.
“My goal this year is to place in State and represent North,” Caldero said.
Head coach Collin McKillip has been coaching wrestling for 12 years. McKillip likes being able to help his athletes and wants to see them achieve their goals.
“I enjoy being able to help kids get better and help them with their goals. It goes the same way for all the sports I coach. Wrestling is more hands on with your wrestlers because it’s an individual sport where they perform with their own goals,” McKillip said.
