Boys soccer wins Conference Title

The soccer team came up victorious on Tuesday with a 2-1 victory over Lakes that led them to win the Northern Lake County Conference Title.

Coach DeCaluwe was extremely excited to see his team go out there and play their hearts out to win Conference title.

I feel very proud of our boys and their efforts this season.  With a very inexperienced team, which only had six players returning from last year, we knew we needed to come together as a team as quickly as possible and out work our opponents in every way we could.  So far, so good. While we had a game or two which we thought we underperformed a little bit, this group of boys showed just how much character and grit they have as they worked so hard to get the results needed to earn our first ever Northern Lake County Conference Championship,” DeCaluwe said.

Senior Robert Santiago, a striker for the team, scored the first goal of the game to give the Knights a 1-0 lead on lakes in the first half.

“It felt good scoring because it gave the team a boost we needed to get a head start on Lakes and to score after getting subbed in felt amazing,” Santiago said.

Senior Will Meyer, who plays forward for the team, scored the game winning goal for North to make the score 2-1 and led North to a victory and a conference champ.

“It was crazy to score a goal in that position of a game with so much on the line, and it’s a moment I’ll never forget. However, we played 79 minutes prior to it, and every single tackle, header, and save set me up for that chance. It was a team goal through and through, from Logan’s free kick to both Matt and Gabe getting heads to it to knock it down right in front of the goal for me to slot home,” Meyer said.
