Chicago hosts winter activities throughout city
With vacation approaching, there are many activities for friends and family to do in Chicago during the holidays.One thing to do downtown is going ice skating at Millennium Park in front of the bean.
This ice rink is located on Michigan Avenue between Washington & Madison St. in Millennium Park and is open from 12 p.m. until 8 p.m. on the weekdays and until 10 p.m. on the weekends.
“Anyone is welcome to come skating in front of the bean. The cost is only $10 for a pair of skates. Over 10,000 people come to ice skate every year; it’s awesome to see how many people come out to enjoy the fun,” said ice rink employee Sam Johnson.
Another activity to do in Chicago during the holidays is to go see the ZooLights at Lincoln Park Zoo. The ZooLight festival is presented by ComEd. It’s free for everyone and is open from 4:30 p.m. until 9 p.m. The festival opens on November 24 and continues through January 7.
“My family and I go to the zoo every December before Christmas. They do a great job of decorating all the lights and making the zoo look astonishing. There’s also many places to get refreshments like cookies and hot chocolate while walking throughout the winter wonderland,” said senior DJ Johnson.
There was a holiday parade put on by BMO Harris bank on November 18.
“I attend the Christmas parade every year with my friends. We take chairs and blankets and hot chocolate and watch all the floats and cars drive by. It’s really a good time and hundreds of people come out for it,” said sophomore Sam Krischak.
The people of Chicago have spent months preparing for the holiday festivities and are ready for tourists from across the country and around the world to enjoy all their hard work and effort put into making Chicago a holiday activity filled place.
