Boys tennis wins conference champion title
Varsity tennis has started their season off with the early winning stats of 10-3.
The boys have been working hard since the beginning of March to get in shape for the season. In a recent meet against Antioch, varsity tennis came out with a win to add to their record.
“Tennis is a completely different sport from anything else I’ve played. It’s such a mental game, on top of the physical fitness it demands,” said senior Josh Moran.
The team participates in both singles and doubles meets. Singles is usually considered more difficult because it requires greater endurance, but doubles can have its challenges as well, with communication and coordination requiring a completely different skill set than needed by singles players.
“Even though we may be playing as a single, tennis is still very much a team sport. Our collective wins and losses are counted together, and that’s how they determine who won or lost the meet,” said senior Serge Troekurov.
Even though the boys are tied for the title of Conference champions, thanks to a win over Antioch Community High School, they still have been working on improving by working hard and trying their best every single day.
“The boys just work hard every day and continue to improve their skills and technique every practice,” said manager Isabel Gomez.
The NLCC Championship meet is May 12, at the District 117 courts, where North will play their conference opponents.
