College of Lake County helps incoming students
College of Lake County came to help the Grayslake North seniors sign up for college next year, by helping them apply, take the academic proficiency test at Grayslake North, and then go to CLC for orientation.
“Melicia Eder is the recruitment specialist that comes from CLC to assist the seniors with enrolling to CLC,” said guidance counselor Jamie Mckenna.
She comes to GNHS and provides information sessions for students and occasionally parents regarding CLC.
“We have had two CLC application workshops, to assist the students in applying to CLC, to get their CLC identification number, and students have the opportunity to take the academic proficiency test at GNHS,” Mckenna said.
The workshops were on a few wednesdays of last month, with Melicia Eder and Mrs.Mckenna and any senior wanting to attend CLC next year.
“It is important for them to help us through this so we can find financial plans, achieve our educational goal and fit our need to be successful in school,” said senior Brianna Nelson.
Brianna is a senior that participated in signing up to CLC with the recruitment specialist. This is why she thinks that it is important for them to have this program for students.
“ They will be helping us find classes that fit our major. Also, they are helping us create a personal plan for graduating college,” Nelson said.
Their plan is to help seniors make the transition easily and successfully.
The APT test is a required test for any student wanting to attend college that scored low on the ACT.
“The APT test is used to see if you are College reading and Writing ready and Basic Algebra ready. It is to see where you are at in English, Reading and Math. A student would only need to take this APT test if you didn’t take the ACT or didn’t score a 17 in English and Reading and a 22 on your Math,” Eder said.
Thanks to this program, the students can take the test here at Grayslake North.
“We come every month and every time we come would be different. We talk about different topics that are important for high school students to know,” Eder said.
They also do things on the school website that are necessary for students to complete, but are made easier.
