Cheerleaders prepare routines

As the cheer competition season is drawing near, the cheerleaders are preparing and prepping their routine for several hours each day in hopes of a successful competition season.
“We practice 2-2.5 hours, six days a week every week. But once competitions get closer, we evaluate and see if we have to practice more or if we can practice less and rest a little,” said junior Camryn Gunn.
Since they spend 15 plus hours with each other on a weekly basis, the team always becomes one big family and learns to work together to make the season a success.
“The most important part of being a team is getting along and working together because we are with each other so much,” said sophomore Sadie Cassity.
Many cheerleaders have set goals for themselves this season that will help the team on their path to success.
“My goal is to get a standing tuck, and I will get it by practicing more and building up my confidence and strength,” Gunn said.
The first cheer competition was on December 4 held at Crystal Lake Central. They placed fourth. Grayslake North will be hosting a cheer competition on January 14.
“We are hosting our annual GNHS Cheer Invite on Saturday, January 14. We have over 100 teams attending with some of the best cheer teams in the State showing up. It should be a great day,” said varsity coach Jenny Garza.
