The boys varsity soccer program has been giving it their all in each and every game that they have had during their season.

“Our season is going well. We have had our ups and downs, but when we play as a team, we always get the job done,” said senior varsity player Josian Martinez.

The boys soccer team not only have goals for themselves, but so does the head coach.

“Our goal [as a team] is to play better today than we did yesterday. We want to take each day and each game at a time and work to improve every single time we have the opportunity to,” said varsity head coach Adam DeCaluwe.

Just as the coach has goals for the rest of the season, the players have goals for themselves to accomplish too.

“My main goal is to keep the ball out of the net, of course. [I also want to] be calm out in the field and play the style of soccer my coach teaches us. I will always be happy with any performance regardless of the score,” said junior goalkeeper Joshua Suciu.

Although the season may be over, the boys are looking forward to what they have coming up next.

“I am excited to see how far we can go into our playoffs,” Martinez said.

Having a passionate coach is a huge factor in team performance.

“I always wanted to be a soccer coach for many reasons. I love coaching soccer because I love the game. I look to share my love and passion of the game with others that have a desire to learn,” DeCaluwe said.

The soccer team doesn’t just play together. Throughout the season they have gotten so close, they consider each other family.

“These guys accepted me into the team and taught me how to be a better player on and off the field. I couldn’t have asked for any better teammates, or should I say brothers, to be with on our journey to regionals,” Suciu said.

The boys ended their season at the Regional finals versus Grayslake Central 0-1 at Antioch High School.

“[Towards the end of the season] we felt unstoppable, everyone coming together and realizing we are winning for each other and for the school we represent. When it all ended, it was devastating, realizing I’m not gonna play for this amazing school anymore, or with these amazing guys who became family,” said senior Josh Moran.
