Psychology Club works with Sole Hope to help kids in Uganda
On September 14, Psychology Club invited other students to come be a part of an organization called Sole Hope. During this gathering, everyone who attended got the opportunity to snip up some jeans into the shapes of shoes to send all the way to children in Uganda.
The whole purpose of this event is to send help to kids who have been affected by infections in their feet.
“Sole Hope is an organization that helps kids in Uganda whose feet have been harmed by jiggers (sand flea larvae). Many of the children in Uganda walk, work, and play with no shoes. Sole Hope helps clean and treat the feet of the kids, offers education to families to help prevent jiggers, and provides sustainable jobs to Ugandans who make the kids shoes with the fabric we are cutting up in Psychology Club,” said social studies teacher Catherine Dodd.
Members of Psychology Club believe that by advertising Sole Hope to everyone in the school it could make such a genuine impact on not only the students, but the rest of the world as well.
“This is making a positive effect on our school because it’s really getting people involved with a service project that could help the lives of children,” said sophomore Alexa Polfliet.
Psychology Club has made the decision to be a part of the Sole Hope organization for the sake of their desire to connect with other parts of the world and to create positive encounters with other countries.
“Psychology Club wants to make a global impact. Through psychology, we know that when basic needs are met, like clothing, food, and shelter, individuals can focus on things like education, and become their own positive influence on society,” said social studies teacher Roxanne Bristow.
